Meet Coach Devin
from gloves to growth
At the heart of Born2Box ATL's movement is Coach Devin — a seasoned fighter, mentor, and youth advocate with nearly two decades of experience in boxing and Muay Thai. More than just a trainer, Coach Devin is a powerful force for change in his community. He dedicates his life to mentoring and empowering at-risk youth, using boxing as a vehicle to teach discipline, accountability, self-control, and confidence! A product of grit, growth, and giving back, Coach Devin transforms lives both inside and outside the ring. We sat down with Coach Devin to learn more about his journey, his fighting style, and why he believes boxing is for everyone.
Q: When did you first step into the ring?
I started boxing at the age of 10 — back in 2006. I was just a kid looking for structure and an outlet. Boxing gave me that. I was fortunate to be mentored early on by some incredible fighters like Paul Delgado, Tracy “Titan” Johnson, and Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andradez. They really shaped my foundation as a fighter.
Q: What kind of boxing experience do you have?
I competed in high-level amateur competitions for years. I was part of a team environment where we constantly pushed each other, which helped me grow fast. In 2011, I made a big transition from Delgado Boxing to Knuckle Up, where I trained under guys like Stephen Upchurch, Jarred Burke, and Devorious Tubbs — all professionals who helped sharpen my game even more.
Q: Your style blends boxing and Muay Thai — how did that come about?
While my roots are in western boxing, I was always drawn to the precision and discipline of Muay Thai. I started integrating those techniques into my training over time. In 2022, I joined Bangkok Boxing and began training under Coach Khunpon. That’s when things really came together. I was able to merge the fluidity of boxing with the striking philosophy of Muay Thai, creating a more well-rounded fighting and coaching style.
What’s your approach to coaching now?
I coach all levels, from total beginners to advanced fighters. But I’m especially passionate about working with youth. I’ve seen firsthand how boxing can boost confidence, teach discipline, and set young people on a path toward a brighter future — not just in the ring, but in life. My goal is to help each student tap into their own strength, no matter where they’re starting from.
Q: Why Born2Box ATL? What makes it different?
Born2Box ATL isn’t just a gym — it’s a community. It’s a space where anyone can walk in, drop their baggage, and get to work on becoming the best version of themselves. Whether you’re here to compete, build confidence, or just move your body, this is where you belong. We combine traditional technique with modern methods, real culture, and digital tools — but most importantly, we keep it real. No ego. Just effort.
Final Words from Coach Devin:
“I’ve been the kid just learning to throw a jab. I’ve been the fighter making weight and chasing wins. And now I’m the coach — ready to give back everything I’ve learned. Born2Box is about growth, community, and heart. If you’re willing to show up, I’m here to walk the rounds with you.”
